Silk farming

Mansfield, Connecticut, occupies an important position in the history of silk production in the United States. It figures prominently both in the practice of "sericulture" (or raw silk culture) in this country, as well as in the development of the technology of industrialized silk thread and textile production. Mansfield was an early site of experimentation in sericulture, which was established in the 1760's. Local families cultivated mulberry trees for their leaves, which they fed to the silkworms that they raised at home in attics and sheds.

Silk-weaving in Sweden during the 19th century. Textiles and texts - An evaluation of the source material. With the rich material available, 19th century silk-weaving invites to studies on industrialisation processes. The purpose of this licentiate thesis is to present and discuss an empirical material regarding silk production in Sweden in the 19th century, to examine the possibilities and problems of different kinds of materials when used as source materials, and to describe how this material can be systematized and analysed in relation to the perspective of a textile scientific interpretation.

For this purpose he started to treat the skin to preserve its softness. Later the bones of animals were used as needle and nerves were used as thread to stitch the hides

The effects of three silk cocoon-stifling processes on the reeling performance and quality of raw silk of the silkworm Bombyx mori were studied. Sun drying killed the pupae but showed inferior reeling performance and raw silk quality compared with hot water stifling and oven drying

Most of the production of silk yarn in the State is based on crossbreed varieties of silkworm and dependent on commercial grainages, which in turn depend on Mysore seed cocoons, the Mysore seed area is directly a source of input material for the entire State. This is because the female moth of pure Mysore race is crossed with male bivoltine race in the commercial grainages.

Silk, "the queen of textiles" is the natural fiber, which is secreted by silkworm, i.e. mulberry and non-mulberry silkworm (eri, muga, tasar & oak tasar) belonging to families Bombycidace & Saturnidace (Order - Lepidoptera, class-Insecta) respectively. Silk is proteineous in nature which is made up of fibrin (C30 H46 N10 O11), fiber and sericin (C30 H40 N10 O16). The filament is coated with gummy material. The silkworm rearing is called as sericulture which derived from the word "Su" (si) meaning silk is traditionallyassociated with the Socio-Economic life of many countries and used for exquisite textile and royal dresses since time immemorial

Microbial contamination of hatching eggs is a main concern of poultry producers as it causes poor hatchability and chick performance. It is evident that high standards of hygiene must be practised in hatcheries in order to minimise the soiling of eggs but, further disinfection of eggs is also necessary to limit bacterial numbers

It is generally at stage X of embryonic development that the egg is laid. The embryo consists of 40,000 to 60,000 cells, with a diameter of 3 to 4 mm and the anterior posterior axis is clearly defined. However, some factors causing variation in cell number exist. Meijerhof R. (1992) showed in different studies that the age of the flock plays an essential role in the embryonic development at the moment of oviposition. Thus, the older the flock the more advanced the cellular development at oviposition.

countries in Latin America may follow suit or even get there first. Back in 2004, Monsanto’s former global forestry chief stated that ‘Chileans could be the first to enter the market with a transgenic tree as they have a targeted goal, relationships with the government and the necessary infrastructure to reach this goal’.20 Since 1974 a decree on forest resources encouraged the development of large-scale tree plantations of exotic species, and subsidised 75% of the associated costs. As a result, there are over 2 million ha of these plantations on ancestral indigenous territories, especially in the south, which has led to displacement and impoverishment of Mapuche communitie

It is proposed to assist Private Silkworm Seed Producers / State Governments by providing critical equipment support to start Bivoltine silkworm seed production. The quality of silkworm seed being precursor for raising successful silkworm crops, the adequate infrastructure for production of silkworm seed and meeting quality parameter is a must. Hence the Scheme.
